i will shop local

there are so many reasons to shop local. we love that the desire to shop local is increasing. admittedly it's become just a way of life to pull up to a shopping center full of box stores and shop totally unconsciously plugged in and move through like a droid. everything about that just seems so uninspiring and blahhh.

mixie is so very excited to be a part of the local movement. every single dress created in the mixie studio is 100% made in California. we work with locals and sell to locals. we love all the local boutiques we work with. it feels good give back to our community and to be part of the heart beat of the local movement.

try and shop local............... start with your local farmers market! then trickle out from there!

our friend morgan shared these pictures of her sweet and lovely whirlwind trip to italy with her love.

she took along her mixie cameron dress in our super cute 'wuthering' print. morgan is an adventurous free spirt. she works at a really amazing and inspiring marketing firm in laguna beach, rides a harley in her free time and takes incredible trips with her boyfriend. aren't ya itching to get the wind in your hair and pack a suitcase with cute dresses for a trip to the italian country side? i am!

oh mizz B you traveling doll!

we just love how she packed her collection of mixie dresses. count them..... 6! she rolled them up in her suitcase, pulled them out, gave em a shake & and headed out to dinner at sunset!

now as we said before her life on the yacht can actually be a lot of hard work. sailing the open crystal blue seas, jumping into the warm tropical ocean........ haha! no really she does a lot of menu planning, cooking and takes care of all things kitchen related. that includes planning elaborate meals using the local cuisine. also planning for the food supply when they sail from spain to the bahamas (for example).

but when this foxy lady is not working away she's playing and frolicking in her mixie dresses!

so we have this girlfriend who has the most adventurous job we've heard of. she basically gets to live on vacation and travel the sea with people who can afford to hire a crew for their very own private yachts. she'd correct me for calling it 'vacation' since she swears it's actually hard work. but the pictures and the places she goes are incredible...... they scream vacation! white sand beaches and even private islands. she's a culinary genius and all around beautiful girl. knows way too much about fine wines and makes the most delicious mouth watering treats. in fact she's exactly who you'd want if you did own a private yacht. to top it off she's super style-y and before this amazing journey, she had a clothing label out of san francisco.

why am i going on and on about this PYT? (pretty young thing) well she has told me on several occasions just how perfect mixie dresses are for traveling. we actually hear that a lot and love that about our dresses. we thought it would be fun to send her off with mixie dresses as she sails the open seas and beach hops all over the world, the bahamas, the caymans, the cape, nantucket, spain, france and on and on and on........ aren't you sorta wishing you could get away from your computer and see what the sun feels like on your shoulders at 5pm in the galapagos islands? check back here to see the adventures of

my little bitty girls trip to the ace hotel and swim club was oh so refreshing! my BFF and i hit the road and were able to catch up on long fun conversations that the everyday speed of real life just doesn't allow for. penelope was a little sweet heart angel.... slept the whole way there and the whole way home. we had lots of yummy food and soaked up the soul soothing desert heat..... mmmmmm palm spring nights are so wonderful and so warm!

hitting the road with my best friend! we're heading to palm springs! with the windows down, the sunroof open, great big iced coffees, loads to talk about. gonna stay up late sitting by the fire and wake up early to hit a bunch of thrift stores that she's already mapped out! i'm already feeling the inspiration seeping in.

where have we been? we've been asked this a lot lately due to the lack of an update on the website. oops! we had a wonderfully adorable fall/holiday 2009 line..... it was in stores and photographed and all that jazz. it just never made it onto the website, due to a computer crash and other events. but anyways...... most of our stores got a visit from our Rep so thanks for selling this highly elusive line!

Women in Business Nominee:
you know how one thing leads to another? well that's kinda the Mixie story. this morning i'm at music class with my little man when one of my BFF's from childhood text messages me a big congratulations for being a Women in Business Nominee in the OCBJ. woo hoo!!!...... i didn't see that coming. one thing i forget is that everyone reading this doesn't know the whole story of how Mixie came to be. when stuff like this happens it's just a reminder of how far we've come and what we have overcome. one day i'll post the whole story but for now i just want to encourage gals to follow their dreams and never give up.

Special thanks to le-creative.com. isn't it the most delicious looking collection yet? there's just so much you can mix and match. we were particularly drawn to mixing Stripes and Prints...... so fun. we're all looking forward to the SPRING and the only thing more fun than SPRING is SUMMER 2009 which is already photographed and ready to launch in the next 2 months :) but you'll have to wait.

keep an eye out for our new featured boutiques. you'll see where Mixie just shipped and learn a little bit about the cute stores that sell Mixie. there's always a story and loads of inspiration to be found when you're busy living your DREAMS.
